We had some unexpected snow today. It started around 10:30 as we were going out for breakfast. Fortunately it continued until around 3:30-long enough for me to get back home and grab the camera. Good thing too since the snow is melted. Supposed to snow again on Thursday unless those pesky butterflies on the other side of the world flapped their wings again.

The grocery store bananas in the States are clones. That is they are genetically identical. In the short run this is great for the consumer and producers since the quality is uniform. But from a long term perspective this is a disaster since that banana's enemies keep on evolving, Here is a good review of the situation. http://www.conservationmagazine.org/2008/09/the-sterile-banana/

Two plus two

The young stretch their necks like horses
racing the light faster than songs, and gyres
of air slip from their arms.
They are sensuous engines animated
by the soul of the world
and by the blindness of hope.
Oh the young swinging from the boughs
of the Ur Trees in the golden light
The sky and the earth upside down again
and again they stretch and at the top of the swing
release themselves from the tattered artifice
of two plus two.
